Valentine’s in Snippets – 14th Feb 2015

Here’s second round of our celebration.. Sequel to the earlier celebration 😛

He had to leave early to join his family for an early lunar new year reunion dinner celebration and he had to work in the morning… huuu huuu ~~~ I only have the middle part of the day with him 😦

Have decided.. after the extravagance yesterday… lets do something frugal.. and also have fun 😀

Searched online for gd deals as he worked and found this place that has rosti for $2 @ orchard gateway (Munch saladsmith).. 😛

So we went.. it was just so so~~ the potato don’t stick very well and had an overwhelming buttery taste 😦 But the chicken and sausage is yummy 🙂 Sorry darling… not too gd a suggestion.. 😦

Here’s what we had ♥♥♥

Then he had an idea…

Let’s go to the beach.. shall we do some cycling ?

His warm and endearing smile just made me melt away~~ He remembered what I have mentioned maybe weeks ago that I wanted to just go sit by the beach and let time seep away.. jz a quiet moment..

Off we went.. Zoom zoom… and rented a double bike… cycled with wind slapping our faces hee SHIOK!!!

We decided to take some breaks in between and had our usual doses of silly antics  😛

He piggy backed me – check out the pic to the right!! hehehehe… Hope I didn’t hurt your back … OOPS :p

Thanks for the lovely Valentine’s weekend darling!!! With the little time we had… I totally enjoyed myself.. and I hope you did too !! 🙂

Valentine’s in Snippets – 13th Feb 2015

Yes you are right… snippets… 😦

BUUUUTTTT….

Loving every bit of it !!!

14th Feb… echoed by many as THE day to celebrate and spend time with your beloved. And so I did.. but we celebrated on the 13th instead cz we has an early reunion dinner at gram’s on 14th..

It started with… a huge surprise bouquet to my workplace..  It was a lovely gesture.. but  far east flora was TERRIBLE.. the flowers look wilted.. and u literally can see them drooping to the sides and some brownish edges on the petals… My gawd!!! how can any florist have the DECENCY to send such things out !! It was a disgrace to even be seen carrying such flowers around. And mind you … it ain’t cheap to order such a big bouquet on Valentine’s. I called to feedback, but they weren’t too remorseful either. **argh!! fuming!! **

But it’s the thought that counts.. thanks my love!

Then it was followed by a romantic dinner at sky bar.. hee.. it was really nice.. The service staff were extremely attentive and polite…The journey started with us being ushered all the way up to the bar (we felt so privileged) ♥♥♥

I was a little cold and they provided me with a shawl… Awwwww…. How sweet ~~~

And after our orders they asked if we were allergic to anything and catered their menu to suit me.. (cz I dun take dairy stuff)… Oh gosh! I was blown away by their service and attentiveness…Seriously pampered!!

You won’t go wrong bringing your other half here, highly recommend!!

It was so enjoyable and relaxing we stayed till nightfall… the place dimmed as the sunset and it was gorgeously lit up by the lights beyond the skyline . How’s the view?? Here are some snippets.. 😛

Stay tuned for part II   ♥♥♥

A Little Sweet Moment

🙂

This is a retrospect entry. Realized I didn’t blog about this when I saw the pic still on my desktop 😛

It started when I faced a pseudo roadblock as I filled up a form..

Yes!!  I have finally overcome my inertia and am filling up the form to be a volunteer with South Central Community Family Service Centre. 😀

Yes!! Work should never be an excuse! I can definitely make time for others 😀

They offer various activities and services to help the less fortunate in the community.. be it tuition, helping families with essential items and many more it seems. Can’t wait to get started, really happy to have made the decision to volunteer my time 🙂

It’s your typical run of the mill form where at the end of the form they would request for emergency contact information.

You guessed it… here’s my roadblock…

Since my school days, all excursions will require me to fill in my mum’s details for this section.

Psst.. I can even memorize my mum’s IC no.

S blah blah blah… hee hee… ain’t telling u 😛

And there I was … staring at this section… deliberating… Finally, I filled it up… him

Yup… it’s you…

After hitting the ‘enter’ button (i.e. submitting the form)….. I realized… my zygomaticus major was contracting…

A little sweet moment indeed 🙂

Mid-Autumn Celebration 2014: Mooncake Buffet

This year is special.. we celebrated mid-autumn at soon to be ah gong, ah ma- in- law place.

We sprung a surprise at them last week over the idea of eating together on mid-autumn with a mini mooncake buffet!! Guess what… they were game for it!!

Thank you ah ma, ah gong!!!

We decided to go against tradition (well.. just the flavours of the mooncakes hehe) since they would already have the traditional ones already.

So after work.. off we go to Vivocity for mooncake shopping. BOY… was it chaotic… and the reason… they were slashing the prices since it’s the last day of sales. Some booths were even giving 1 box free with every box purchased.

After 1 round of careful inspection we decided to go with

1) Teochew Flaky puff yam mooncakes

2) Four Seasons Mao Shan Wang Durian mooncakes

We intended to get d24 but they were all sold out… so guess we were left with no choice 😦

**Word of advice.. you can get good deals on the last day of these fairs but selection very limited so go early!! 😀 **

Off we went to ah ma ah gong house… and as we were driving past their house.. we saw a string of lanterns nicely lined up by their window.

Wow!!! Now it got me real excited.. ah ma and ah gong spared no efforts in making this possible. They’ve even done up the place to invite children and grandchildren home!!!  They are truly the sweetest couple I’ve known to date.. totally adore their grandchildren 🙂

Here’s what ah gong did…

finish

So pretty isn’t it!! I’ve never had such celebrations at home.. and have always wished for 1.. thanks for making this happen baby 😀

And here he is.. heehee .. helping to light up some lanterns

bb preparing

And once again.. we were treated to a sumptuous spread for dinner. Ah gong went chinatown market to get crayfish for my baby.. his fav.. and ah ma cooked both our favorite vegetables (broccoli – me; cauliflower – luv). Of cz future mum-in-law cooked the most yummilicious curry .. oh man.. really good!! And future papa-in-law bought famous roast meat from his workplace I think.. I feel so loved!!!

Thank you everyone!!!!

dinner!!

After dinner.. silly me asked the elders to sit by the lanterns and *POSE * 😀

Here’s my lovely future ah gong ah ma in-law

ahma

Of cz my darling’s doting parents 😀

mama

After that ginormous meal.. an ant’s appetite remained for the mooncakes.. so there goes the mooncake buffet 😦

Here’s the ‘spread’ :  Huge pomelo.. Big China mooncake, yam mooncake, four seasons MSW mooncake. Not forgetting chinese tea to down the mooncakes!

mncake weiqin

Overall, the yam mooncake was well received by all. It was really good after we warmed it up for abt 5 min in the oven.. yam was smooth and not overly sweet, very fragrant indeed (my first time eating this – and I must say.. it’s a nice change to tradition – YUMMY!! ) Pastry is a tad thick.. otherwise.. thumbs up!

Now for four seasons mao shan wang durian mooncakes, this was well received by baby’s cousin. But I didn’t think it was really good.. it tasted better at the booth than the ones we have at home and we followed their instructions on thawing as well.

Here’s the review…

the snowskin was too mushy.. like really mushy and squishy. You don’t even have to bite, disintegrates to the slightest pressure.

The durian filling is good but it was difficult to cut and hold, basically it gets mashed up rather easily, losing it’s shape and worse..potentially losing it totally *you might just accidentally drop it*

Interestingly, the inner filling (the middle portion) is still hard and icy while those nearer the snowskin is already flowing/sliding off to the side. Overall not that satisfying..

That said.. it was a truly enjoyable mid autumn celebration.. a warm and fuzzy feeling as my baby will often say 😀

And how can we forget the juicy plump pomelo!!

pomelo

A sweet ending indeed!
